Eye Key

May 31, 2015

This little Royal Dottyback, about 3cm/9inches long, it moves quite fast but it tends to periodicaly come back to a given spot. If found hovering in the send, the Dottyback will often look up at the lens leaving the sandy patch as background. This could be used easily to achieve an high key tone that goes well with the fish front colors. I photographed it using a 100mm macro lens. The approach was challenging and patience was key. I suggest studying its swimming pattern first to predict where it could be next. Generally, anticipation helps.
